North Coast 500

LOCAL tourist chiefs have issued a warm Highland welcome to holidaymakers planning to follow the North Coast 500 route.

But they have also made a plea to visitors to respect the locals and fragile eco-system after reports of an increase in the amounts of rubbish being dumped following a relaxation in lockdown rules.

Wild campers in particular have been accused of trashing varying beauty spots and leaving rubbish behind.

A spokesman for the North Highland Initiative, which helps promote tourism, said: “There’s no better place to visit than the Highlands, but we ask people to have a thought for others and pick up their rubbish so everyone can enjoy the many attractions we have to offer.”
